Brazilian music made with wood, leather and metal.

From the south of Minas Gerais, between the cold of the mountains and the isolation imposed by the pandemic, Guaimbê is born. With the forced departure from the stages, caused by covid-19, bonds of friendship were intensified and new ways of making music began to be part of the routine of Leo Brasileiro, Flávio Danza, Aluísio Cavalcante and Rodrigo Mendonça, generating creative moments that sounded like a deep breath for these musicians, one from Bahia, one from Rio de Janeiro, one from São Paulo and one from Goiás, who met in Poços de Caldas and started their recent career as a group there.

The first single, “Noite de São”, released in June 2021, brought the Northeastern rhythms, the Choro references and the freedom of Jazz as musical nuances for this work. Away from the stages, Guaimbê embarked on festivals, winning, with its first release, the 3rd place in the Minas Gerais Music Awards and the Best Arrangement award at the 39th Cruzília Music Festival, in addition to being among the semifinalists of the Radio MEC Music Festival. With the song “Sertão Bachiado”, she was one of the finalists of the Canto Aberto Festival.

Still in its first months of existence, Guaimbê produced a reinterpretation of “Masssemba”, a song by Roberto Mendes and Capinan, which became nationally known in the voice of Maria Bethânia. The version, presented for the first time in the live session for the Minas Gerais Music Awards, caught the attention of the composer and other Brazilian artists for the inventiveness of the arrangements and the drama of the interpretation. Still for 2021, Guaimbê prepares the release of its first EP, which is being collectively produced and recorded at Cambucá Records studio, in Poços de Caldas, MG.
